I think because of the oportunities that I had when I was young that I am a digital native, I have been able to have computers in my life for long periods of my life so I think I have a very good understanding of technology. This quote relates to me alot, "they have spent their entire lives surrounded by computers." This really relates to me and how I grew up. Also, the quote saying "Todays college graduates have read less then 5000 hours of reading, but over 10,000 hours of video games." Even though I have read probably 10,000 hours, I also have 10,000 hours or more of computer games.
I have been able to keep up with the language that is important in teaching students, because I have involved myself in computer games and other forms of media that students are involved in. This gives me many oportuinities to relate to students. "Students think and process information fundementally diffrentyly" this quote acurately describes me and how think is probably alot diffrent that what other people in my class think.
I had many good experiences in technology in the highschool setting because my school was at the leading edge of technology when I was attending, I actually had less technology in college classrooms because the teachers were not used to using technology and felt that it was distracting to the information they wanted to have shown.
I think the quote in the digital natives where they says "our students brains have physically changed" I think thats interesting to me and I am wondering how it has changed my brain.
Being a native in technology I feel that i already had the view that I will have to have technology in my classroom. I think the articles strengthened my view that I will have to have technology in the classroom and I would like more ideas on how to do this in the future.
Hey Ryan! It's interesting that you always assumed that you would use technology in your classroom. Since I didn't have any tech in high school or college, besides the occasional projection style movie, I had never really thought about the ways a teacher could incorporate it into a classroom. These articles gave me a ton of good ideas but I'm interested to know the ways that you will incorporate it and what types of uses you had already thought of before the reading. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteRyan I would like to say that I am happy that you are in my half of this class. I feel like if I were just a few years younger I would be way more tech-saavy. It will be a challenge for me to do these things that come naturally to you and i respect you for that. I am sure you will be the techiest teacher around and your students will think you are really cool!
ReplyDeleteYou have obviously had a lot of great opportunities in tech! This is going to give you a leg up in the education world! I greatly appreciate your knowledge and ability, and willingness to pass it on to others.
